Resupplied in Boca Manu and ready to move on, our next destination took us East of the National Park Tourist Zone and down the Madre de Dios River into the lowlands of the Manu Wilderness. Our next destination: Manu Wildlife Center.
Over the last few years Manu Wildlife Center has established 30 miles (48 km) of scientifically-designed forest trails surrounding the Center. The exploration of the surrounding Amazon continues with discoveries of nature's weath in this biological hotbed. 10 species of resident monkeys inhabit the area, namely the acrobatic Black Spider Monkey, inquisitive Brown and White-fronted capuchins, Bolivian Squirrel Monkey, Saddleback Tamarin, Dusky Titi, Night Monkey, Red Howler, Monk Saki, and the spectacular, mustachioed Emperor Tamarin.

My home for the night, a Manu Wildlife Center bungalow.
While most exploration of this region has been confined to accessible areas along the Madre de Dios River, MWC provides the perfect place to finalize logistics, lay out charts and maps, plan the next leg of a journey into remote Amazon areas. And, maybe best of all, provide the luxury of a hot shower and comfortable bed!
